Cairns in the south to Cape Tribulation in the north.

The far north Coast of Queensland boasts some of Australia's finest tourist attractions and is a great jumping off point for the Northern Queensland Islands and Rain forest tours. Cairns is a bustling city full of life and has everything that a traveller could ask for. For the scuba divers out there, this is the gateway to arguably some of the best dive spots in the world. With the Ribbon Reefs, the Famous Cod Hole and its resident giant potato cod, and thousands of other dive sites, you simply cannot go wrong.

To the north of Cairns is the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest, with tours of all kinds available, just beware of the crocodiles. When you see the signs, "Don't go in the Water" - don't - Crocs tend to eat people and they do have a fascination for tourists. If you feel the need to see these reptilian giants, do so at a Reptile Farm, much safer, a better view, and you won't be on the menu.

This is Cape Tribulation, and further north you will drive off into the never never, but the scenery and remoteness of this part of Australia, is very special, very rare, and will enhance any Australian vacation. This section of Rainforest is said to be some of the oldest stands of rainforest left in the world, and evidence of the prehistoric age is still to be found here. Approximately 70 kilometres north of Cairns is Port Douglas and this is paradise on earth. With 6 kilometres of unspoilt white sand beaches, you can relax the time away and refresh the soul. The Sheraton Mirage Resort is the largest accommodation in Port Douglas and for the golfers, the Sheraton has a course to be reckoned with.

On the Marlin Coast - a few kilometres north of Cairns, are some of the areas finest white sand beaches. You will not be surrounded by thousands of tourists, more likely you will have the beach to yourself. There are so many fantastic secluded spots, you could try a different one each day. The Marlin coast gets it's name from the giant Black Marlin, that just love these waters, and are a easy catch during the correct time of year for you folks who enjoy gamefishing. There are many charter fleet operators who can take you out for a single day or for a week.

A must do thing in this part of the world is a trip to the rainforest township of Kuranda. It is extremely scenic and once there a variety of tours await you. With the recent addition of the Sky-way, and the Famous Kuranda Rail, you now have the chance to see the rain forest from ground level, and a trip riding over the canopy on the way back. Also at Kuranda is the Tjabugai Theatre, an Aboriginal group that perform a variety of native dances and rituals. A must.

For those adventurous, extremist, active holiday makers, you are not left out. With White Water rafting up to Grade 5 on the Tully and Barron rivers, you can exert yourselves to the max. There is so much to see and do that I could ramble on forever.

If you are thinking of coming to this region, our Travel Department at Tourism Review, will answer any of your questions, or give advise as to what to do without all the sales hype that normally comes along with this sort of thing.
