Northern Tasmania

The north coast of the state fringes Bass Strait and has a fantastic storm coast and a Sunday Drive will reward you with spectacular scenery. The area is abundant with National Parks. Launceston is the Major commercial center to the north and is the second largest city in Tasmania with the usual gamut of accommodation.

The big difference from the mainland cities is the number of guest houses, mansions, and colonial inns. Here is where you will find the old world charm of English Style guest houses. Launceston is situated along the banks of the Tamar River and is noted for it's magnificent gardens and parks. It is nestled on floor of the Tamar Valley, which is coming of age for it's wine producing region.

A great way to start a self driving holiday, which by the way is the recommended form of transport for the tourists visiting Tasmania. For the gamblers out there the Country Club Casino will have you spending and hopefully winning fast, and a game of golf the next morning.

This northern part of Tasmania is also home to one the most famous National Parks in Australia, that being Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair. A World Heritage Listed National Park. The views from the hikes available will remain with you forever and are well worth the effort. If you are in this part of Australia, do it.
