Rottnest Island
The island is approximately 1 hour west of Perth by boat and once there a day to relax is in order. A great social pub for meeting the locals and a good starting point for information. Day tours, great beaches, great snorkelling, tennis, golf and boat hire are all here to keep you busy.
Keep an eye out for the quokkas, small mammals that resemble large rats, which is how the island claimed it's name. Rottnest, meaning rat's nest, is a terrible name, but the creatures are much cuter. The Freemantle Yacht club holds its annual Black Marlin Festival here in March every year and for those who like the thrill of big game fishing a more pleasant spot could not be found.
